New Paradigms Unlimited was founded by Mary and Allen.  Their agency provides outstanding leadership and

Mary's own inside expertise on how the system works.  Mary is the author of a new book for foster parents
entitled
"A Guide to Foster Parenting Everything But the Kids!

Allen is working on his own book about his days in foster care as a child and how he is still affected by it today.
The title is
"Cracks in the Walls."  It will be available in late winter or early spring of 2010.

About the Book
"While most foster parents have altruistic motives in their hearts, they must put
'survival in the system' skills on their foster parenting resumes"

"Working in the foster care and the social services systems is as equally
challenging as parenting the foster children."

"Foster parents require more than good parenting skills to achieve longevity and
success in today's foster care climate!"

"Most social workers and case workers don't understand the difficulty of your
job as a foster parent."

"Foster parents felt under-valued and dispensable!"

"Foster parents, individually, must think of themselves as professionals, and as a
larger group, they must work together to gain professional credibility and
recognition from their professional peers and administrators!

Australia's
FOSTER PARENTS' SUPPORT
NETWORK
June 2008  Conference
Baulkham Hills, New South Wales
Allen and I had the pleasure of key-noting both Australia's Foster Parent Conferences in
June 2008.  The first was sponsored by
Wesley-Delmar Missions. Foster parents there
had previously been presented with a copy of my book, A Guide to Foster Parenting
Everything But the Kids."  The second conference was attended by foster parents from
all over Australia and as far away as Tasmania!  It was sponsored by Australia's "Foster
Parent's Network." Our key-note was entitled, "Professionalism and Teamwork."  We
presented workshops including: Parenting On the Same Channel; Parenting Difficult
Teenagers; and A Walk in Their Shoes (for social workers).  We found that foster parents
face many of the same challenges as we do here in the United States! We all have in
common open hearts and the will to help children in need.  Both Allen and I  want to
thank Rose Cowen, Sue Pickles, Theresa Burgheim, Jill De-arth, Sue O'Conner and
everyone who was involved in organizing the conferences and selecting us as their
key-note speakers!  We truly loved meeting all of you!  A special hello to Michelle
Chapman, Brett Tyler, and John Hellyer!  Keep in touch!
